At the Aurora African American Health Coalition, we are proud to introduce the BIRTH Project — Building Inclusive Reproductive and Transformative Health — an initiative focused on reducing maternal and infant health disparities among Black women and families in our community.
Why the BIRTH Project Matters
Black women are nearly three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women in the United States. These disparities are not the result of genetics but of systemic inequities in healthcare access, bias in medical treatment, and the lasting impact of social determinants of health. The BIRTH Project is our response to this crisis — a grassroots, community-driven effort to change outcomes through support, education, and empowerment.
What We Offer
· 🍼 Providing Essential Baby & Maternal Supplies
We ensure that Black mothers have access to the necessities they need for a safe and supported postpartum experience. Our team distributes:- Bassinets, playpens, and diapers- Baby toiletries and nursing essentials- Toiletries for moms and other newborn care items
· 👩🏾⚕️ Training Community Health Workers & Doulas
By equipping local advocates with culturally competent training, we’re fostering a trusted support system for moms during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery.
· 📚 Providing Maternal & Family Health Education
We host workshops and distribute materials that focus on prenatal care, postpartum wellness, infant care, and fatherhood. Our goal is to give families the knowledge they need to make informed, empowered decisions.
· 🏥 Assisting with Healthcare Access
From connecting families to prenatal services to helping them navigate insurance options, we’re here to reduce barriers and simplify the path to care.
· 🤝 Connecting Families to Community Resources
Whether it’s parenting groups, childcare referrals, or financial assistance — we work with local organizations to provide wraparound support for Black families.
Building Health Equity in Aurora and Beyond
The BIRTH Project is not just about distributing items — it’s about restoring dignity, autonomy, and trust in a healthcare system that has too often failed Black mothers. Through this initiative, we aim to create stronger families, healthier babies, and a more just future for our community.
We invite healthcare providers, nonprofits, and neighbors alike to partner with us in advancing maternal and infant health equity.
