About the Event

Join The Illinois Department of Public Health’s Refugee Health Program on Wednesday, April 24 at 11 a.m. CST for a virtual webinar on “Transnationalism, Culture, and Health among African Immigrants in the U.S.” This webinar will be presented by Dr. Kelechi Ibe-Lamberts, Ph.D., MCHES from the University of Illinois Chicago’s School  of Public Health. The webinar will cover:

  • The different definitions of Immigrant subgroups.
  • The concept of transnationalism and why it should be considered a determinant of health.
  • Why African immigrants and African Americans can’t be grouped and viewed the same in the field of public health.
  • The impact of health disparities and acculturation to the life course of African immigrants.

The target audience  includes community-based organization staff members, health  professionals, and college and university students.
